It's only fair to start this review by saying that I did not play Warrior Within on my PS2, so this experience is entirely new to me. I know the game is a port of this title with added content, and some people seem to think it's too close to the original. I cannot comment on this, and am approaching this game from a fresh perspective.
First, the graphics are amazing. The overall presentation of the game is possibly the best ever seen on a handheld. The voice acting and story show that a lot more effort was put into these aspects than goes into many other titles.
The controls are very responsive, and the camera does a good job of following the action. The fighting involves combos, which I found frustrating at times but other gamers may enjoy. With practice, the combos can be performed accurately, but expect your opponent's movements to throw off some of your pre-planned moves.
The single player campaign is long, and provides gamers with a lot of gameplay for their money. Gamers who have gotten used to portable titles being somewhat short should be pleasantly surprised.
The only real problem with this game is frequent loading. I can tolerate load screens for a game with graphics that are this in-depth, but gameplay often stops for 3-5 seconds while the game loads. This sometimes occurs at very inopportune times (like mid jump or wall run). Instead of a load screen in these instances, the screen just dims a bit, and action starts back up unexpectedly.
There are several bugs where the sound cuts out, but these are minor in my opinion. The soundtrack features a lot of hard rock guitar riffs, which some people seem to think are repetitive and out of place, but I think they set the tone very well.
Overall, this is a quality title with a few annoying technical bugs. I enjoyed the title and feel it does justice to the Prince of Persia license. Definitely worth a rental, but a good purchase for anyone who enjoys the Prince of Persia series.
