Republic Commando is an excellent attempt at the first-person shooter genre. It is possibly the most polished Star Wars game I've ever played, and has wonderful graphics.
However, the game is a damning combination of both short and repetetive, single-player mode wise. I was swooning over this game for the first couple of hours, and then it kind of hit a brick wall. Suddenly, the levels were becoming longer and longer versions of the exact same thing I'd just done. After a brilliant start, suddenly the game starts putting the player through generic, limited mobility corridor-shooter levels that have been outdated since the first Doom.
And it's a horrible shame, because there's so much done so well in Republic Commando. The control, innovative squad system, graphics, voice overs, sound effects are all fantastic. But without interesting level design, it all falls flat fast.
