Kirby Air Ride is one hard game to write about because for a whole bunch of reasons. The only reason i'm still going to do my best on it is because my love for Kirby.
The first thing that i noticed about this game was that the menu was almost a complete copy of the one used in SSB:M, not a real surprise since it's made by the same people. But still you'd expect something bigger from them, not the same menu and sounds again. Another weird thing is that the game doesn't even feel like it's one game, it feels more like it's 3 mini-games. One racing game, one racing game with a different camera and easier levels, one small party game. The racing game is the Air Ride, in it you only need to use the analog and time the A button for powerslides and boosters. Also with the A button you can copy moves from enemies. However i did notice that all the sounds that the attacks make are all the same as the ones that where used on the SNES games, heck some where still from the GB!
The other racing game is Top Ride. This isn't a real original game since there are plenty more racers that are exactly the same. It's also the most boring mode of the 3.
The third mode is the City Trial mode, in this mode you can ride around on you star collecting power-ups or getting a different star. When the times up you'll be taken to a mini-game, some involve racing, other flying and some even fighting.
All 3 modes have their own checklist of things you need to do in order to unlock new stars, levels or characters.
Kirby Air Ride is a confusing game, it's hard to learn how to use the simple controls, but when you get used to them it's still not as fun as Mario Kart Double Dash or F-Zero. The game is fun for a short rent to play with a couple a friends. But not fun enough to try to fill up the checklist.
