So far this is the only game i played on the DS that lacked touch-screen usage, but do i actually care?
Everyone who has ever played a Mr. Driller will know what to expect in this game, once again you drill your way down by tetris like blocks, although the layout reminds of tetris, in actual play its more like Kirby's Ghost Trap or Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine: as soon as 4 blocks of the same color touch, they dissapear.
This will make sure you have to pay attention: go down carelessly and you might get crushed, go down to slow and you run out of air. Air can be replenished simply by collecting the little green bottles filled with it. Together this makes a addicte little game.
But the true challenge lies in Dristone Driller, in this mode you only lose air when drilling a block, also air bottles are limited so you will have to think before acting. In this mode special stones appear that either change the surroundings or give special power-ups. Those who love puzzle games will truly love this mode.
The only way this game uses the touch-screen is by making it able to control your character with it, however this is slow, not to mention frustrating. As for the usage of both screens, there are only 2 modes in wich you actually look at the top screen, most of the time you will only notice the lower one.
Mr. Driller Drill Spirits is an entertaining puzzle game, personally i would have like to see more use of both of the screens, but it's not a giant loss.
