A true test of skills and a chromatic explosion. This is Ikaruga, an old-style shooter that makes of the graphics its first weapon to beat the player. Graphics play a very important role in this game, and I consider this one, one of the best graphics I have ever seen in a game. Not for the graphics itself, that doesn't push GameCube's possibilities, but for the effect they have. The chromatic waves of black and white that continously cross the screen give the game a frenzy rythm, that shakes the player him/herself.
But Ikaruga is not just graphics, of course... The reason for which Ikaruga is a successful title is its simplicity. The game concept is very basilar, as the controls are. Though, this simplicity is Ikaruga's best characteristic. The difficulty level is pretty high and a tricky high scores system will keep players busy for a lot of months in the hope of becoming masters of this game.
For all of these reasons, though, Ikaruga may not fit all players' needs and desires. Ikaruga is a very particular title, so you should think well before buying it... Maybe renting it first is the best advice.
