Have you really been scared by a video game? Sure, Resident Evil gave you a few jumps here and there and the new Charlie's Angels GC game makes the fear of a thousand souls run up your back as you have never seen such a horrible game, but I can honestly say Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is one game that truly scared me and kept me scared throughout the entire game.

First off, the graphics in this game are superb.  Really utilizes the power of the Gamecube.  Everything from the lighting and shadowing to the facial remarks and body figures are perfect.  Literally perfect.  The backgrounds and settings are nicely done as well.  You can actually see cracks in the foundations of stone and the very tree sediments on the oak walls.  Amazing.

Gameplay!  Okay, when I first picked this game up, I was like, "Okay you zombies, I'm chopping your heads off with my trusty sword that I saw on the back of this game!" Well...  one hour later and the help of Gamefaqs.com that came to be.  (Yeah, I had trouble with the first puzzle.  Ouch.) It takes a little while to actually get into the fighting part.  I'm a little disappointed in the fighting part.  Hacking off different body parts is cool, but the technique is always the same, and the enemies are limited.  Hack the zombies head off, then slice his arms off.  Massage the scalp and repeat.  Of course you get to do this with many other weapons, so you're never just stuck with one stinking weapon for a too long of a period.  Magic...  or erm, Magick.  Nice system.  Don't want to delve too far into it.  Three components needed for a spell and three different domains or ancients' lore, I'm not sure what they call them.  With three different paths to the end and an exclusive secret ending after completing all three, this game will keep you going for a loooong time.  Two months later for me.

And here we are to the best part of the game...  the Sanity!  Whoa, this is the part that'll freak you out.  I can say I've come to parts where I'll jump out of my chair and go "Holy Sh*t!" at the top of my lungs or go "You Stupid, F***ing machine!" It's all in your head...  or the game...  or the head the game gives you.  Or the headache you get from the game, those hurt.  Blood running down the walls, corpses literally falling apart, loud noises, whispers, strange sights, weird features, and even some Gamecube problems are just a few of what you'll encounter.  All the characters have different situations in their sanity as well, so stumbling across the same sanity again through all the characters is hard to find.  Don't want to reveal too much, but heck, this is the part where you'll have fun.  I even recommend skipping enemies just so you can get the euphoric effects from this nifty feature thrown in by Silicone Knights.
