This is the game that started the Action/RPG gerne for me.It has many things I still to this day find well made compared to other Action/RPGs.You play as a boy who accidentally stumbles upon the Sword of Mana in a weakened state. So he ventures back to his village, and our quest takes off from there as I don't wish to spoil anything. The game's story is very good for its time, and very good for an Action/RPG in general.First thing you will notice is this game's graphics.I am not one to take graphics over gameplay, but this is one of the most gorgoeus SNES games ever to be made.Everything is so bright and vibrant, and the spell affects and monsters are detailed very well.Next thing you will notice is the controls. They will take alittle while to adjust to, but once you get them down, this game handles like a dream. One button pops up a ring, and you press up and down to change this ring from equipment,to spells, to items, and to strategy. You use one button to attack, and holding the attack button in generates more power the longer it is held. You use one button to run instead of the normal walk, and one button to jump.Next thing on the list is battles. All enemies are fairly smart, and the bosses really give you a run for your money. And all losses cannot be blamed on controls, as they give you exact precision. Each weapon has a different effectiveness on the enemy, as well as magic, giving a strategic feel to the game, other than a mere hack-and-slasher.That leads to the finest aspect:customization. This game wouldn't be nearly as addictive if it didn't have the customization it has.All weapons you find can be upgraded by "orbs" you find after beating various bosses.Upgraded weapons have advanced moves, but the decision lies in what weapon should you upgrade, which is dependant on your play style. All magic is upgraded by using it over and over, and not by cheap leveling up.Now I move on to the last part of the game:Multiplayer.I was fascinated by this.I never thought a multiplayer SNES game could be so well done, but I was wrong. This will remain to me the best multiplayer SNES game I have ever played.I would rather play multiplayer, as that leads to my only gripe with this game:your allies AI.They are so bad sometimes that they run straight into the enemy. They are never using their best moves, and are killed frequently. But if you are playing multiplayer, it reduces this greatly.Overall, one of my favorite games, and no other action/RPG has ever did better for me than this.
