This game has a lot of flaws which you tend not to notice because of the way the game looks.
Yes the graphics are very good. Yes the action is quiet frantic. Yes the story is better than in other games. But there the fun ends.
The game is way too short, but I am not the first one to have noticed that. The missions are very short. You spend more time watching in between movies and the comic strip than playing the game.
The story is very average. The voice of Max is on one substandard gumshoe tone throughout the whole story, very boring to listen to. The comic repeats the same images on numerous occassions.
The game is extremely linear. You do not have to think at all during the game except about how to shoot the guys in the next room. If you fail the first time the bad guys will come out in exactly the same way as the first time and react in the same way.
One of its selling points, the bullet time effect, is not needed to complete the game. You do need it if you would play the game modes that are unlocked after completing the normal game, but besides the game mode itself, there is no compelling reason to play the game again after you have finished it, because you already know the story.
And the list goes on and on, weird behaviour of props, extreme plotholes, stupid AI, underused characters, etc. etc.
So in my opinion there is a lot wrong with this game. It gets high scores because of its shiny looks, but underneath it this is a piece of software which just nearly deserves the word "game". It's a bad B-movie with some interactive elements.
