Crimson Skies is a great shoot down everything that moves, flying game. The game can be explained very simply. You play air pirate Nathan Zachary who is trying to get some revenge for the death of his friend. The game takes place through the 1930s, with a decent story line and some nice cut scenes.
As you got through the missions, you get new planes, each of which you can upgrade for cash and upgrade tokens. The tokens you get for completing missions and some are hidden in the levels, often in places you would not visit during the regular missions. You often have a choice as to which mission you would like to do first, since the game lets you fly around freely and you must fly by or stop at certain locations to obtain missions. There are also some missions and races that you do not have to do in order to complete the game, but can bring you some extra cash.
The game is pretty easy, featuring 19 levels, each with three or four missions. Up until mission 17 the game is pretty easy. You never really have to look around for long before finding out what to do. Level 18 is a little difficult, due mostly to tight spaces and the final boss on level 19 takes quite some time to kill. As you do your missions, there are mechanics that you can go to get your plane fixed. Also, planes often drop extra weapons and health (secondary weapons only, since your guns do not run out).
You also travel with some friends, who help you out. But almost never actually shoot anyone down. The only problem with the game is that it is not very long, maybe 10-15 hours depending on the difficulty. However, XBox Live adds unlimited multiplayer to the game, making it worth while and there aren't really any other games of this type on any console, so if you like this type of game, it is worth it. Another little problem is that in tight spaces, you can't always see where you should go and there was once bug, that made it impossible to redo a mission if you failed it the first time. But leaving the game and coming back would let you try again.
Overall, I would say it is worth it and it now comes with the XBox Live 1-year kit, a nice bonus.
