Right from the start, you can tell that more thought was put into this game than the previous one.  I did enjoy the first Spider-Man Movie game, but it was too linear and repetitive.  The first thing that the game asks you, after the intro, is what type of swing mode you would like to use.  You can choose from the "Easy Swing" or "Full Control" systems.  Unless you are really young or new to games, I would go with the "Full Control" since it gives you exactly what it says.  You can control Spider-Man from web to web completely.
The game is set to a GTA type of gameplay, with much less violence.  You have a main story to follow, but you can do many things during this.  There are people all over the city that need help and they call you out, so you can help them.  There are hint markers to read, races around the city to do, coins to collect and secret locations to find.  All this is open to you from the start and you have all of New York to swing around in freely.  They also have some nice little features I always like to see.  You can skip all cut scenes if you wish, there are lots of stats to look at (so many that some are ridiculous) and you can save at any time.  The story is the same as the one in the movie, with some cool extra side stories added in.  Also included are some additional villains including: Mysterio, Black Cat and Rhino.  The voices are also the same as in the movie and the walkthroughs/hints are once again done by the great Bruce Campbell.  And finally, the game loads right into your last save once you hit start.
The game looks good, but nothing extraordinary.  Your typical GTA looking graphics, not really up to par with a high budget Xbox game.  You can swing freely off any object, but you must have something to swing off, which adds some realism.  The cuts scenes are well done, but the in game graphics could use some improvements.  When you talk to people, their mouths don't even move, but it is not really a big deal.  You also cannot hint innocent people on the street, you hits go right through them.  The map and stats update themselves all the time, so you know how much of the game you have left and how many bonus items you need.  When fighting enemies, the police sometimes help you out if they are already there.  You can also upgrade a lot of things with the points you get for completing missions of getting items.  You can upgrade everything from swing speed to the amount of webs you can use at one time to tie people up.  And you can also buy new combos and moves.
The main problems are that the missions given to you by the people in the street are always the same.  There are about seven different ones and they get very repetitive after doing each one five times.  There are a lot of people to help, so more variety would be nice.  Also, there is one rescue where you have to get a girls balloon back, which occurs often and it is hard to tell where the balloon is.  The saves are very slow, but at least present and the worst part of the game is that it is very short.  I play a lot of games, so I can beat them fast, but at eight hours, it is not worth buying, I beat it in three days.
Overall, it is a good game, but one that you should rent and play through.  Once the story is over you can get all the coins and hints and save everyone on the street.  It actually tells you to by giving you a new mission where you need to get 50,000 points.  But the bonus at the end is minimal and it gets boring to simply run around saving people.
