Things that were once lost are found again:
Dynasty Warriors 5 is the DW that most of the hardcore fans of the series have been waiting for for awhile now.
Basically the game is the same as it once was, you pick a hero from the 3 kingdoms and make your way into a massive battle. This installment hasn't changed that one bit which is what i've loved about the series. I am only going to point out, to the best of my abilities, what has been changed for the better and what remains the same.
Characters
In this game there are now 48 characters to play with! Unlike the other games each character has his/her own musou mode (story) which makes for an interesting experience, unlike the repetition of before. Well there are still repeated levels but each character has something new to add to them. Another thing is that you cannot create your own character, something i've loved doing for awhile now.
Weapons
The weapon system in the game has returned to the way it was in DW3, just a little tweaked this time. Instead of just collecting weapons and beating the hell out of everyone without worrying about the one you choose, this time they've added a new weight system to the weapons which can yeild faster attacks and in some cases longer combos. Just like before weapons can be found off the corpses of officers you've killed. Sadly most of the items and weapons you find will be in boxes which makes you look around for them instead of just going through and massacreing every genral and officer in sight, which makes it more interesting.
Bodygaurds
Koei has completely changed not only how many bodyguards you can have, but also how you aquire them. There is only 1 bodygaurd. This is one of the coolest changes that I noticed from the start because the bodygaurds AI is greatly improved and can lend a HUGE hand in battle. There are many types including swordsman, spear users, bowers, magic users and even tigers! Also unlike the others you cannot create your own bodygaurd, you can only get a new one after a battle and hope that they are good enough that you want to keep em. It also helps to be picky because every BG has a class, rank, weapon and potential.
The potential and rank allows for a stronger bodyguard and one that can learn skills to aid you in battle. Also because there is just one you can perform a double musou attack with your BG, which is infinitely useful.
Graphics and other extras
The graphics are very nice as they have been. Somehow they patched up the massive lag issue a bit, but it's still there. Tiger units have been added and they are both as much of a pain and a good thing in this game due to the fact that they cannot be attacked. In order to kill a tiger you have to kill the tiger's master. You can choose the difficulty before you start a musou mode and before you start a stage in free mode, instead of having to constantly change the diff. in the options. There are no more in-game graphics extra movies when you beat the game...something that I loved to death, something that gave me a reason to beat the game many times over and over again oh well. Unless i'm missing something, so far the difficulties seem easier overall then they were before, but because of this you can't get insane items from playing the hardest difficulty on a beginner level.
Last words
Well I'm sure i've left out some things that some of you were looking for, oh well I just bought the game. So far this one hasn't dissapointed me in the least, but then again i've stuck with the series since DW2. In closing even if you are a hardcore fan of the series or just a nub looking for a fun game to play, well this is it. Oh and 1 more thing, Lu Bu is still the baddest mutha on the planet.
