Ever since Rockstar realeased GTA III, the PS2 has became extremely famous. Then a year later, Rockstar realeased GTA: Vice City which was a vast improvement from GTA III. Thus again, the PS2 has gotten even more sales than ever. Alrite, stop those nonsense history lessons, its time for GTA San Andreas. Its dowright the best GTA game yet and one of the best game ever made. Check onto my review to find out why.
Graphics:
Although the graphics have not improved much from GTA: VC, it still does looks pretty ok. There are still some slowdown problems here and there, and the character models are jaggy. If Midway or Naughty Dog could produce the awesome graphics with Shadow Hearts: Covenant and Jak 3, why can't Rockstar do it? IMO, the graphics in Manhunt even looks better than San Andreas. The background designs looks really good, from the Los Santos the countryside, to San Fierro to Las Venturas, they all look nice. Graphics could be improved though as this part is the only downfall of the game.
Sound:
Top-notch voice acting plus awesome musics in a video game equals to "Awesomeness". The voice acting are particularly good. Theres lots of swearing in San Andreas though which makes the game have a gangster style feel. The music in the game is great as well, ranging from classic pop to an all new rap-trash talking-radio station. Rockstar really did a good job in the voice department.
Gameplay:
This is where the meat of GTA: San Andreas is. First and foremost, San Andreas is HUGE. Its atleast 5 times bigger than Vice City if you didn't know. Its seperated into 3 cities which you will access through the game. They are Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas. Each of them are equally big, if you are gonna drive from Ganton and explore every area of San Andreas, get yourself a can of beer and a pack of chips to do it.
New to the GTA series is the ability to swim. How much do you hate it when you are Tommy Vercetti back in Vice City crusing around and all of a sudden a mad lunatic smashes you into a water and you died? Well, in San Andreas swimming is not a problem now more. You can swim to increase your Lung Capicity so that you can dive underwater longer.
Next is an new mini "RPG-element" which is present in San Andreas. For example the more you use an MP5, the more experiance you will have with the weapon. Once your MP5 weapon lvl reaches Hitman, you master that weapon it will do much more damage than it will when you pick it up for the first time.
Then you have driving in a car, riding in a bike, boat or even in a JET-Plane. The more you use them the more experiance you gain with them. If your lvl in riding a bike is maxed out then you have less chance of falling off the bike and getting less dmg if you do.
All of this elements sounds really great, and last but foremost is the feature to cuztomize your CJ anyway you like. There are tons of clothes in the game which you can buy from 5 different clothes shops. You can go to the barber to change your hairstyles and get tatoos on your body as well. Go to the gym to get your CJ ripped and fit as well as learning new fighting moves. However if you are just a lazy fat punk, then you can eat all you want in various fast food shops to make your CJ extremely fat. Triple thumbs up(if I have 3 thumbs that is) to Rockstar on the gameplay department which is absolutely phenomenal.
Story:
You are Carl "CJ" Johnson, a young man that managed to escape the horrible gang fighting land, San Andreas, five years ago. Now, 5 years later, he gets some news. His mother has been murdered by a gangsta in Las Santos, a city in San Andreas. When he returns to Los Santos, he was stopped by a group of crooked cops. They took his luggage and money away and dump him on the streets in the middle of no where in Los Santos.
Then the story evolves from there which is spoilers, so get the game to find out. Overall the story is awesome spanding about 144 missions in the game. It won't be long till you beat all the missions though, but if you take the time to collect hidden stuffs then its gonna take a LONG time.
BUY it or rEnT it?!
Defintely buy it! No matter the graphics, the gameplay more than make up for it. Its no doubt that GTA: San Andreas is arguably the BEST PS2 game to be made and also one of the BEST games of all time.
