Last year, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando took the spotlight by beating Jak 2 and being the best platform game of 2003. This year though, the last R&C game(most probably)is realeased just along side with Jak 3. Now onto my review to see if Up Your Arsenal actually is the best out of the series.
Graphics:
This is where the game lacks a little. The graphics are pretty similar as Going Commando. They still look great but still not as good as Jak 3. Now the bad news about the graphics is that there are some slowdowns in immense shooting battles. Also, the tend to get into the way sometimes when your life is at critical state. There wasn't any slowdown in Going Commando, but there is in UYA. I don't know why though.
Sound:
The music in the series has always been good. It's different, catchy, and keeps the pace of the level. The explosions and numerous gun sounds are all varied and appropriate. The sound in this game is really atmospheric. The voice-acting are really good as well. The way how clank giggles, thats hilarious!
Gameplay:
The best part about the whole game is the way it redefines and improves the genre. "Strafe, Shoot, duck for cover" doesn't apply only to shooters. Alot of a the weapons from Going Commando are back here in UYA. Such as the Agents of Doom gun, mini-turret gun, the laser machine gun and much more. Of course there are a few new ones as well. This time though, you can upgrade your weapons all the way to lvl5. Then when you finish the game, load back and you can purchase the special levels to the weapon you like. You also level up as well, now this time around you can max your nanotech to 200. But, don't you go thinking that your enemies will have to hit you 200 times to bring you down. It depends on what kind of enemy hits you, a boss might take about 10-20 nanotech lives from you. While most of the other enemies will take about 2-10 nanotech lives from you.
You can decrease the damage done to you by buying new armors. This makes armors much more useful. Alrite, the online play is bassically one of the best online games I have played ever. There isn't lag(rarely it does though) and thats what make blasting your enemies from around the world awesome. There are a few modes, like deathmatch, capture the flag and conquer your enemies base. All are awesome as the shooting are so fast paced you have to dodge, shoot, dodge, and shoot. Really great performance done by Isomaniac.
BuY it or RenT iT?
If you did play the last 2 ratchet and clank games, then the third one is definitely a must-buy. In other words, its the best one among the other 2 ratchet and clank games. If you did not follow the R&C series, then this game is still great for you. Just for the fun of blasting every thing you see is awesome enough.
