It wouldn't be a complete PS2 fiscal here if there isn't a DW game out for the PS2 itself. Well at last, Dynasty Warriors 5 has came and go. So does DW5 actually is a big improvement over DW4? Well just read onto my review for DW5.

Gameplay:
As you expected, the hack n' slash is here to stay. Yes, you still go around killing alot of soldiers. Thats the meat of the game. One of the best improved feature from DW4 is the bodyguard system. Instead of 6 bodyguards a group, you'll only get 1 bodyguard this time around. However, this 1 bodyguard does a job of those 6 bodyguards combined. They help alot now, even to the extent of killing your kills.

Also if you and your bodyguard's musou meter are full, you can launch a true musou attack together. This is a nice touch as it is really usefull for beating up super-charged up generals. Instead of the R3 button being used as a taunt button in DW4, this time its used for the Musou Rage button. Once activated, your character will go into Super-Saiyan charged up mode. Your attacks will be higher, speed increased, attack speed increased and you will be able to launch your true musou regardless of how much HP you have left. All this of course has a time limit.

There's also 6 new characters which you will have to work your way to unlock. This time around, each general will have his own story path instead of a kingdom story path. Most consist of 5 battles, some are 8. Gone are the weapons leveling system and back are the finding weapons system in DW5. This of course can be a nice touch to the past, but I still like the weapon leveling system better.

Graphics:
Remember those horrid framerate drops back in DW3 and DW4? Well this time, it isn't here in DW5 anymore. Yea, even if theres 100 over soldiers on your screen, the framerate doesn't drop. Infact, the framerate drops rarely in this game. Character models has improved a tad-bit, there aren't so much jaggies anymore. The background designs are completely new and they look pretty good. Though some are bland looking.

Sound:
Here's one of the worst part of the game. The voice acting. Yea, while I can say some are good but alot of them are just plain bad or mediocre. Nothing fantastic, as most of them doesn't show emotion feelings when talking. The music? Well its combined with some techno+chinese music+japanese tunes. Nothing really to care though because you won't even notice theres the music when you're in the middle of killing peons.

BuY iT or RenT iT?
If you're a player who wants some non-stop hack n' slash, I'd suggest you pick DW5 up. Theres no reason in renting it because theres just alot to unlock in this game. However I just feel that DW5 isn't actually a completely new game, its just DW4 with some improvements. Kinda like DW4.8 or something like that. Any DW5 fans must pick this game up of course.
