First time I heard about this game was around mid 2003.  I been waiting for this game for its release for almost about a year and when they finally released it.  I was really excited on picking up the game so when I bought the game I rushed straight home to play it.  The introduction to the game was cool to watch but we know that we could not do that in the game.

The first race was obvious similar to EA's Need for Speed Underground.  I thought the game was going to be boring but after a few races I got highly addicted to the game.

Story 7/10

The story is dull.  You are a street racer trying to make a name for yourself.  You win races to get the respect of other racers and import models.  The more races you win the more cars you unlock, more courses and more videos from the import models.  Most of the time you will be re-racing courses to gain more respect points to go on to the next course.

Music 6/10

The music is just awful in the game.  Most of the songs are just rap there are some rock songs and a drum and bass song.  The sounds to the game match up to their real life counterpart.

Controls 10/10

The controls to the game are superb.  Easy to handle.

Gameplay/Graphics 8/10

They did a nice job on the city but I found that when they said they were going to use exact locations they were unsuccessful in Los Angeles.  It sort of looks like Los Angeles but it looks way too clean for it to be LA.  They took some ideas off off Tokyo Xtreme racer where you high beam your rival for a race.  The graphics to this game are well done the ground is the same as Underground but what makes it different from Underground is that you can access most of the items in the beginning and not have to worry about level upgrades compared to Underground.  What the game lacks was more cars and gear ratios.  Most of the cars you see in the game are different years or different models of the car.

Replay Value 8/10

There is plenty to do but most of the time you will be trying to gain more respect points to unlock more cars, models, videos, ect.  If you plan on playing online the replay value to this game is endless.  You will be having fun with other players.

Buy or Rent

It may not be the best street racer game ever but it should be one of the best at this time til MC3, NFSU2, Juiced comes out.  This is game is a love it or hate it type because the reviews I have seen many people gave it a bad review or gave it a good review.  If your a tuner head this game might disapoint you since you cannot customize the gear ratios in the game, but I would recommend this if you enjoyed Underground.  Rent it first before you decide what to do with your 50.
