No doubt about it, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is a fantastic RPG. To keep it simple, you're Mario, your paper, and you have buddies you team up with to figure out puzzles and beat baddies.
For starters, to dispel any myths, this is not a KID ONLY game. Anyone with a half-open mind will enjoy it. It's a long game, and after playing for a bit, it will CHALLENGE you.
Let's talk about the PRO's and CON's:
PROs
1. Both the characters and the storyline is entertaining. Each character is developed well and you'll find yourself chuckling.
2. The game is just unique. It's really unlike any RPG that I have ever seen. The paper style adds a new flare and the new moves you learn really spice it up. The way you learn new moves to get to different areas reminds me of a metroid-style RPG.
3. The variety. The choice are unlimited. You can pick different badges, different upgrades, different partners, different .... endless.
4. The gameplay is rich. Mario is easy to control.
5. The storyline is VERY thick. Between chapters you play some scenes with Princess and Bowser and during the entire story you KNOW somthing exciting is brewing.
6. The biggest pro is simply that the game is FUN and ADDICTING. The challenge, sense of accomplishment, and intrest for the story approaches some Zelda games.
CONS:
1. I wasn't a big fan of the music. It seemed repetitive, and a lot of times it didn't change from battle to explore-mode. I thought they coulda thrown a couple more bars in there.
2. There is a LOT of dialogue, which slowed it down a bit, especially at the start. Once it gets going though, you hardly notice it.
No matter who you are, I think you'd like Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
