The best game of 2002. That is undeniable. And here is why.
The graphics of the game is superb and unmatched. Every corner is detailed if you are crazy enough in each and everyone. And I think I should, considering how great this game is. It is not just the graphics either. The game captures a great deal of sci-fi artwork that makes the game unique to other space adventures.
The controls need a little getting used to. It has a lot is common with the controls of the Zelda because of its auto-lock feature that made it much more easier to use in fire fights. Though the enemy has to be in the line of sight tfor it to register. If the enemy is coming from the blind spots, you have have to cumbersomely pan, which is bad because you have to stand still. But you rarely get into a fight and spend your time exploring.
The sound was ok. For a 3D sci-fi game, you would expect some inter-racial communication (sound) so this is kind of dissappointing for new-generation game.
The story is told through logs and lores of the Space Pirates and Chozo. This can be easy to read but not as interactive as full blown movies found in other games. But it works so for me.
The game AI is good in normal mode. I stilll have not tried out the hard mode so check the other reviews to see what they had to say. In normal, many advenced enemies will try to dodge most of your fire but with auto-lock, its still pretty easy to kill the enemies.
It is almost a perfect game but the lack of engaging voice or sound. It still excels on other things that makes it such a great game. It has a lot of back tracking though but I did not mind since it was such a great experience.
