Advance Wars. One of the best launch games of the GBA and still one of the best games in it even until now. And why is that?
Well, first of all it has personality. The CO's have their own characteristics and personalities that you would grow to love or hate (depending on the character). From the tough talking Max to the overly confident Kanbei, there is something to see in the campaign mode.
Mentioning campaign, it's deep and engaging. It is varied enough to challenge your skills and the super hard Advance Mode would definitely warrant a second play. The missions are long enough to play at home and on the go.
The visuals are amazing. Even today, it is one of the best looking games on the GBA because of its light colors and slick anime style.
The sound is great for a GBA game. Though you would get tired of it after sometime.
And the gameplay is simple yet intricate. You build units and kill off the enemy. But for more resources, you have to capture cities and bases. And you don't pit units against each just like that. Infantry should avoid tanks. The artilleries should not be in the frontlines. etc. So for the strategy gamers out there, there is enough here so satisfy your hunger.
It has a pretty long play time. After the campaign, there are the extra battles in Battle mode to test your prowess. You'd be caught up with it for months. I know I have been for years.
This one of the best games of all time. Bold words. It can never be Civilization nor Chess but it comes pretty close. Just check it out. You won't be disappointed.
