The first Final Fantasy for Playstation 2 has good and bad sides to it in different areas of the game. Squaresoft ( now SquareEnix or something like that) knows what they're doing when they make RPG games. The story is one of the best in the FF series ( not as good as FF7 though). There are so many major and minor details that contribute to a great storyline. With the whole mystery surrounding Sin and the summoners's pilgramige to defeat it, is a story that could only have been made by Squaresoft.
Now the game did have its faults outside the storyline. In FFX there is no easy(great stress on the word EASY) level up system where you fight and gain experiance. There are no levels, for example: you don't start at level 1 and as you progress though the game you can increase your level to a maxium of 99. There is a system of nodes for gaining experiance. Now I personally found this system very complicated at first but after a while I got used to it( I had to start a new game a quarter though because I wasn't doing it properly). I know Squaresoft was trying to take a new approach to the gaining experiance system but I say they failed in their attempt.
The other thing I had a problem with didn't affect the storyline at all: BLIZBALL!!!!! This mini game is so annoying. When you have to play a game of Blizball to continue the story it's near impossible to win (impossible for me because I never won). Now whether you win or lose it doesn't affect the story at all but it is so difficult to win that I never played it again. Now you have the option to build a team thoughout the game and make an allstar group but I decided not to.
The characters are believable and consistant. The story makes sense and they don't resort to cheap gimmicks. There are a few other flaws that won't hinder you game play experiance so I don't have to mention them. This game improves a lot on FFIX and was and all around enjoyable experiance. Squaresoft can only go good places from this game.
