For the life of me, I cannot figure out why this game is getting fairly low review scores.
It is a niche game, that cannot be denied. You can't call it a "sim" because walking tanks simply do not exist. However, it is closer to more of what it could be than many other Mech-type games.
This game isn't MechAssault, and for me, that is a great thing. Steel Battalion was much more along the lines of what I was looking for in a Mech game. Huge amounts of customization, from parts to paint, is what this game is about from a character level. The game is really about teamwork.
This game is definatly an Xbox Live game. The single player is a bit lacking. It's really nothing more of a ramp-up to getting on Live.
Squads are also where it is at. You cannot go at it alone. This could be a turn-off for fans of FPS games.
The game moves at a slower pace. It's not unlike actual combat if anyone has been in a situation like that. The game just skips the bad weather, living in tents, and the hours waiting for contact and moves you right to minutes before contact. When combat comes, many times it is fast and brutal.
It's not trying to be MechAssault 360. If that's what you want, you will most likely not be getting what you want. If you found the MechAssault games fun but lacking, this is most likely a game that you will enjoy. If you want Halo 2 with big robots, pass on this one entirely.
