Final Fantasy VII is the game that got me hooked on RPG's. The game is the perfect marriage of cinematics, narration, and gameplay. The game hooks you from the very second you start and doesn't let go. The graphics back then were mind-blowing and even by today's standard pretty good. The blocky characters gives the game a distinct look and leaves you feeling that it couldn't have been done any other way. The pre rendered backgrounds are gorgeous to say the least but the fixed camera makes it hard to navigate at times. The game however gives you the option of displaying pointers and arrows on the screen. The sound effects are generic but the soundtrack however is striking and varied considering its limitations. The themes are memorable and still better than those of half the games out right now. The gameplay is linear but that really doesn't matter since you'll be compelled to follow the plot just to see what happens next. Final Fantasy VII in my opinion is one the most defining moments in not only gaming but in the entertainment industry in the past 10 years.
