This is might be the scariest game I've ever played. Compared to other survival horrors such as Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness is more action orientated.
The game has you play through the timeline of the Roivas family tree and those who have come into contact with the tomb of Eternal Darkness throwing you into locations such as ancient Roman times and Cambodia. Each stage furthers the story, without fancy movies, but just as effective.
Though the game may not be as pretty as the Resident Evil remake it is just as scary any how. The insanity meter adds an interesting twist to gameplay. The more monsters you see the lower your insanity gets and you can only replenish your sanity by killing the monsters. When your sanity meter is low you're treated with such things as hearing footsteps, knocking and blood dripping on the walls. The more original ones include having you see monsters that aren't really there and having you enter a room but come out where you started. The best ones are the ones that make you think that there is something wrong with the game itself. It will make you think the game has crashed or gone mute.
Overall the game is frightening and exciting to play at the same time. While it might not build the same sensation of horror as Resident Evil it does the job just as well.
