Ufo-Review:

I'm a big X-Com Fan.  I played the first part UFO: Enemy Unknown (Defence) through.  I played Terror from the deep, Apocalypse, Interceptor and Enforcer.

And I was very happy to get this game on its release date.  I bought it, went home, installed it and then I felt like in good old years…for a moment.

The Geoscope reminded me of the old times, when I first started UFO: Enemy Unknown.  But the graphic is much better.  So I started to play.  I prepared myself of the differences between Aftermath and Enemy Unknown so I wasn't so sad, that you cannot configure your own base, recruit scientist, soldiers, technicians, buy jets, equipment etc.  But I miss these features.  The first X-Com game is more than 10 years old.  Why did they do that? Or … Why donīt they do that?

Ok.  In cause of the new storyline, the old way of playing makes no sense.  The intro tells, that the most of the humans were dead.  Where do you want to buy soldiers? So you must hope that the soldiers come to you.

You are a survivor under survivors and try to find more survivors to clean the planet of aliens and mutants.

The first hours of this game were very easy.  You find a fast path into the game and the graphic in tactical missions is good.  But a little bit loveless.  Nice role-playing elements.  The gameplay is OK, but sometime it disturbs the flow of the action.  The AI is not the best, and the difficult level depends on the better-armed aliens, not on the AI.  In the old X-Com game, you can buy tanks.  That took the place of four men but they were very resist against alien weapons.  In the old X-Com game, you can go to the missions with 14 men, not with only 7.

You have only mission at night!!!  And sometimes it is very frustrating, when the aliens come with big rocket launchers.  God help me!!!  And why you cannot go into the houses and shops??? In X-Com you had civilians, too.

The presentation of the results of science, development and of the glossary is very loveless.

I miss Ufo Enemy Unknown.  I miss the X-Com series…

But for all others…is Aftermath a good tactical combat game with good graphics, good storyline, fun and frustrating elements.

If you are a X-Com fan, play the demo.  If you are a fan of good action, tactical gaming: play the demo.

I voted 7.  Good, but not good enough.

And for all "real" turn based fans.  Try Silent Storm…
