Im a huge fan of rpg's, but I never got into games such as Diablo 2. Sacred has changed my view on this with great affect. In fact, I found it quite bothersome when I had someone with me.
The first thing I did when I installed the game was to patch it to version 1.5. I had heard about the bugs and this patch recommended a few improvements.
The game itself is absolutely beautiful to look at. People go about their business, animals roam freely and theres plenty of fighting going on with orcs and soldiers. (In which you can participate to help out)
There are 6 premade characters to choose from. Each character has a personality of their own, and is very different in both appearance and fighting styles. The game is also very big and offers freedom that no other game seems to offer. I had played for a good 5 hours before I actually completed my first major task. This is because I was too busy exploring the world for quests and better weapons. I found a better sword and armor than the shopkeepers were offering and also saved on a lot of gold.
One of my favourite features is the horse. You can buy a horse from the start. This isnt just a novelty as you can also buy better saddles for your horse offering protection. There are a lot of different horses and they vary in stats. You have to go up a few levels before you can ride the really fast ones. Oh, and if you dont want to buy a horse, you can always steal one which is hanging about!
A special mention should go to the fighting. I know a lot of people have said its just hack and slash but you will hardly care. Theres a huge amount of weapons in the game and some can be upgraded at a smithys. You can go for 2 handed, sword and shield or 2 sword styles. You also have slots for special moves. These expand with experience and when you find a combo master, you can create 4 hit combos which are great. Creature kills are quite gory for an rpg. I cant recall another rpg where blood gushes out of the victim in huge amounts, and they scream in agony. If you listen carefully, some have amusing quotes when going out.
Theres a great multiplayer option where you can either go against each other or play the whole game co-operatively. This is a great idea as there are no loading times and you can go your seperate ways and do quests individually.
Experience is dealt with very well. Theres no confusing screens and its just a case of adding attribute points on level up.
This game has its critics but I honestly can say that I would rank it as one of the best rpg's I have played. Hopefully, with the release of the next patch, the game will be great for all.
I would not go by the demo when trying this game, as it does it no justice. Instead, hire it or buy from a store which offers return/exchange and make your own mind up. I dont think rpg fans will be dissapointed.
