Lara was not always a fearless adventurer but after her airplain crashed in Tibet Lara started to see her life in a different perspective. Lara is a strong young woman and is hired by Natla - a woman seeking for the mysterious Scion!
The story isn't great, it is barely there. But we all know it isn't about the story. The gameplay is absolutely excellent! Lara moves smoothly and she has various flexible moves. She can jump really far and can handle many weapons. Her pistols is one of the Lara Croft trademarks. Lara only shoots animals which is quite weird. The enemy A.I is poor but action isn't the essence of the game - puzzle solving is!
Lara is very intelligent, so puzzles aren't a problem to her but to the gamers they are. There is certain logic in "pull a lever, find a key" kind of stuff and you can't really blame anyone else for not moving on because you are stucked working on a puzzle. Tomb Raider is a special case because it left me to think about the puzzles after playing it. I never could go to sleep if I finally knew the answer that I had been searching for! And after one puzzle there was another one praying to be solved.
Now, the action is the cream in the cake. It is there but just to make it little bit better game. One of the best things was fighting off Dinosaurs! T-Rex is no match to Lara's shotgun but of course, you get so suprised that only thing you can think of is running away! During the adventure you will be "rewarded" with more weapons but I prefer to use the pistols.
Now to the graphics. Today, Tomb Raider looks quite awful but don't let it fool you. All the levels are well textured and the 3D world is amazing. The lightning effects are brilliant and certainly comes of well in the dark atmosphere. Core says that Angel of Darkness is the darkest but I think this one is. You never really see any friendly faces, mainly enemies and tombs - and lots of them. Lara herslef, is "cubic" but after all these years, she still looks stunning. Her hair got lost somewhere but that is not so important.
Now, level designing is excellent. Trust me. Core has build beautiful, large and well detailed levels. Lara can take advantage of her environment quite well. She can swim, jump, shoot and pull and push objects. The levels have certain amount of mystery and charisma that will keep you happy! Most of the time you will need to search for a key or push the levers on right order but the levels are so well build that you won't get bored. Actually, half of the time you will be spending saying "Wow!" because of the great level design.
So is the game too hard and too long? Nope. The difficulty level is just fine, sometimes you can just concentrate to admire the view and use those great weapons Lara has or spend hours to solve a puzzle. There is many diffrent levels offering atleast 50 hours of game play. If you are a new comer for Tomb Raider world, you should try this first.
