A key thing about whether someone will enjoy PN 03 or not is expectations.
Many people thought this was some sort of futuristic Tomb Raider. Those people write for many of the popular web zines and as a result gave this game a bad review.
First and foremost this game is a SHOOTER. Nothing more and nothing less. It requires fast reflexes, strategic thinking and determination. It is very much like the classic games of the past.
Graphics:
PN 03 oozes style. The creator of the game intended for this game to be very "white" looking because so many of his games we dark. (Resident Evil and Devil May Cry) Vanessa (the main character) is completely hand animated and the animation is beautiful. You must see this game in motion to see how everything flows together. Its not the pretiest game out there, but it more than makes up for that with its style.
9/10 Graphics.
Sound:
The sound of PN 03 is very futuristic. Techno music floods your speakers, while you rain shots down upon your enemies. Its an action game so crank it up and be immersed in the carnage!
8/10 Sound.
Gameplay:
Again this is what seperates PN 03 from most action games. The gameplay is so intricate and functional, yet so stylish it really makes it stand out from most games this generation. Probably the only ones that come close are Gunvalkyrie and Viewtiful Joe. There is a pretty steep learning curve to get the controls down pat, but once you do, the game absolutely rocks. This is a game that requires you to play through at least twice. You must practice your timing and dodging skills to truly see how great this game is.
10/10 Gameplay.
Overall:
Most people will miss out on this game simply because of the negative reviews. For 39.99 this is one of the best risks around to see if you like it or not. At the very least you are supporting one of the last companies willing to take risks on inventing new games and not rehashing sequel after sequel.
