Activision Anthology is the perfect retro collection. While many other GameBoy Advance classic collections will only give you 4-6 games to choose from, this cartridge gives you over 50! It has every single Atari 2600 game that Activision could get the rights to.
Not only that, but the game has just about every cool feature you could possibly want. You enter the high scores list, options, and game selection area from a bedroom with a TV, Atari, cartridge rack, notepad, and a few other things. For a really hardcore Atari fan, you can select a cartridge, go back to the bedroom, and select the Atari to play it. This option here is somewhat pointless, but it doesn't hurt anything; You can always just choose a game from the cartridge rack and just play it straight from there. Not to mention, this game actually saves your high scores, and tells you when you beat your high score or unlock a patch. For some reason, no other retro collection does that. There are also four songs (that play only in the menus) to choose from on the cartridge. They aren't that great, but they won't annoy you to death if you choose a different one every time you play. Another cool feature in this game is the option to view the old manuals, labels, and boxes from the games. With a high score, you can even view a game's "patch." By "patch", I mean Boy Scout-style patch, that you can sew onto your clothing to proclaim your geekyness. It would be hard to find a game with a better interface and more options than Activision Anthology. Now, the interface is cool, but of course the games are most important. As I've said, there is a total of 55 games, including a few unreleased ones and a stupid tech demo. Most of the games are great, but you'll quickly bore of some of them. That's ok though; Just play the other fifty-something instead! Activision Anthology emulates these games almost perfectly. All the original sounds and graphics are there. The only slowdown to be found is in Ice Hockey (which has an alternate speed setting anyways) and H.E.R.O. Despite what Caleb said, there is NO slowdown in Skating Adventure. Your character slows down when riding on grass. You ride a skateboard onto the grass, and you'll slow down too.
Whether you're an old Atari veteran who craves for classic games or a younger gamer (like me) looking for a game with some varied fun and good replayability to take on the road, you'll just love Activision Anthology.
