I never really planned on playing this game because I never even played a MMORPG before.  I soon found myself wanting to play this game because many of my friends bought it and wanted to to join.  I even bought a new laptop just for this game, and man, is it worth it.

The game itself is a real world filled with many characters good, bad, and neutral, that are both NPCs and other people just like yourself playing the same game with you.

The whole premise of having to find others to battle in a party is amazing.  Through a simple search tool to find others, you are able to form up one in no time.

The battle system is very good.  It is indeed turn-based, but with a lot of emphasis on you controlling your own character.  The battle sways according to how each of the characters in your party is situated within the party and the abilities they perform to the party and the enemies.  This means one must strategize with a party before they set out to fight.

The races and character classes, called jobs in Final Fantasy XI, largely deterimine how a character will be used in a party.  For example, a "tank" is used to take all the damage.  A "healer" is one that heals, and must be proteceted at all costs because of their low defense.  This is a great way to battle, for it largly requires teamwork between your online friends.

The graphics in Final Fantasy XI are very crisp and smooth.  The character models are top notch, especially when they get equipped with armor and weapons found in the later levels.  The battle effects are also a nice visual splender, for each slash of the sword and spell casted results in a flourish of color to project on the screen.

The music that is used, as with the previous installments of Final Fantasy, is top notch.  Great musical scores during battle, and during the rest of the game creats a dramtic effect of the situation the your character is in.  Splendid.

This game is so massive, that the current level 75 should be more than enough to keep you busy for many months ahead.  With all the missions, quests, party combinations, and more to extend the life of the game, it is sure a great online experience.

Fun: Heck ya.
