Sid meir's Pirates is the remake of a classic 90s game which I have never played!!!SO what is this game about; the truth is Pirates cannot be categorized under one genre. It is as much a adventure title as it is a strategy and a RPG. The game casts ther player as a young buccaneer out to prove his mettle in the world of pirates and high seas and find his family who were taken away. The game doesnt really feature a storyline and gives you the freedom to do whatever you please. SOme objectives are laid out like eliminate another nation's town or merchantship or another pirate's hangout but in general you are not bound to any of these to advance in the game. You select a nation to sail under and any sinking of enemy ships is rewarded with a promotion in rank. Eliminating a pirate gives you access to his ship and hangout and gets you in the list of top pirates, which earns you more respect and also more enemies. Towns are interactive areas where you can repair/upgrade ships, listen to tavern talk, buy/sell merchandise and even romance the governor's daughter by asking her out. Challenges are build into every game mechanics, like ship to ship battles, hand to hand combat on ships and dancing in the ballroom and sneaking around a city/town or finding an ancient treasure. The graphics in the game are cartoonish and reminiscent of the old adventure titles like Broken Sword. The sound is a mix of old world music with some maritime war music. The characters in the game speak "gibberish", a language made popular by the Sims series. Overall, this is a worthy title to have.
