NFSU took the entire series in a new direction and did a pretty darn good job about it. Featuring souped up cars with lot of dazzle, racing in nightlit city streets made every gamer feel like a Vin Diesel or a Paul Walker. NFSU2 continues the series and while it does enough to further distance itself from the competition, there really doesnt seem t o be enough to go through the whole game again. This time around, you are given a big city to roam about and find races, the freedom to choose your own race is much welcome but the fact that upgrades are unlocked only when a specific race is completed, robs some of it. Also upgrades are no longer shoved down your throat, you need to ride to a shop to have it fitted, which brings us to the frustrating part of the game, these shops are available on your map only after you pass it and that could mean driving around pointlessly hoping to find something somewhere, sometimes, the sheer drudgery of driving around causes you to race whatever race you find nearby and that further robs the freedom of choice. Putting a storyline intot he game and shown through comicstrip sequences may have worked for Max Payne, but here its kept so drab that you just feel the urge to hit the esc button. The graphics have been improved, cars look more beautiful and customization options have also been increased, The city looks pretty colorful with some neat touches like real world brandnames sticking out, yet doesnt quite feel lived in. Traffic on the streets is the usual generic car/van/truck crap like in the previous game. NFSU2 will be fun but will seriously appeal only to teens. It is stil is the best game based on the underground racing scene!!
