I first encountered CT on the pages of Nintendo Power in 1995. At first glance, I didn't think much of it. However, I continued following the progress of the game, and was rewarded for my patience. This is one of the Square Soft classics, right up there with Final Fantasy VI, Secret of Mana, and Super Mario RPG. The brilliant character designs from Akira Toriyama are a great addition to this title and bring color to the story. The story starts small, in the middle of nowhere and quickly blossoms into a huge, time-hopping adventure of massive intrigue. The elements for a great RPG are all here- a brilliant battle system, sharp graphics, with easily grasped control and mechanics. It doesn't stop there, either. The begins as a tried and true 'Rescue the Princess' bit, and explodes into a mad dash to save humanity. From the Reptites of 65,000,000 B.C. to the killer machies of the ruined 2300 A.D., this giant run through time and space covers great vistas of gourgeous scenery, sweet tunes, and daring escapes from blood-thirsty monsters. The people and places are vibrant and realistic, and include a cast of 6 playable characters (Hey, that was a lot in the 90's), from your Hero to an evil dark mage. There are scads of treasure and goodies to discover, and finding them is rarely a bore or a chore. Truly great storytelling (with over 10 endings!!!) and more to find each time you descend into the rich experience. Replay value is allso there, with all that delicious treasure and the FIRST instance of the New Game+ feature, to let you make the bad guys bleed from the get-go. Go get this classsic for your SNES,or pick up Final Fantasy Chronicles. Either way, the ride is enjoyable, fun and exciting all the way. Take it from me, I bought this one on its release date for $89.99 and completed it no less than seven times, twice in one summer.
