Secret of Mana. That ethereal intro music, those beautiful watercolor painting graphics and that run and slash fighting system. It's not often that you can break a sweat fighting a full-screen sized monster, and wishing like hell your weapon would charge faster. The powering-up of the weapons is a bit irritating, and the story (and lack of dialouge) leave you searching for more story than is there. But despite its flaws, its keeps you coming back. There is little replay value, but strange as it seems, I have finished this one no less than a dozen times. The lack of an ending is also troubling to me, but what can you do. One of Square Soft's less brilliant offerings, but I can keep away. Nothing chases the blues like thumping the life out of dozens of Rabites, and watching them pop. Nice interface to your items and spells makes it easy and clean to snap off spells and those emergency items. Despite the flaws, a solid and fun trip.
