I have been an avid Sim City player since Sim City 2000, so when SC4 was announced, I had fairly high expectations. Some were met, some were not. First, about the graphics. This game provides some real drool material, provided it doesn't slow your machine to a crawl. Many great effects are offered, but the requirements for them are astronomical. Next, everyone's favorite, the disasters. In this game, you can actually control the disasters to some degree. You can tell asteroids where to fall, and tornadoes which direction they should go in. This makes the disasters a good free demolition tool, as well as a great guilty pleasure.
Now for the great gimmick: regional play. It does two things: provides for enormous cities, and looks impressive when you have an entire region covered in grand metropolis. Does it provide any real gameplay enhancement? No.
Now for my only major beef. There is no way to import cities from Sim City 3000. I was looking forward to continuing several projects that I had going, only to discover that I could not.
Sim City 4 has its shortcomings, but, overall, it's definately worth the money, especially now that the Deluxe edition with the new expansion pack is out. Check it out!
