Being one of the most hyped games on the Game Cube; MKDD had a lot to live up to from it's predecessors. It lived up to all the hype and more. The two player kart system did not add all that much to the gameplay, but it made it feel like playing an all new game along with keeping some of the old aspects of the Mario Kart games.
The graphics are far superior to every other racing game except for F-Zero and Project Gothem 2. The tracks bring out the best of the Mushroom Kingdom as many of Mario games do. Some of the classic Mario characters return along with some new Kart favorites like King Boo and Petey Piranah.
The multiplayer was somewhat of a letdown though. None of the levels are all that exciting and most of the games are boring. It is mildly better when playing 2 on 2, but then there are not enough karts to make it an interesting game.
Mario Kart gets a 10 solely on it's single player alone. With many exciting levels and a slew of different difficulties; it is able to hold the attention of many gamers for a long while.
