Super Mario 64 set the standard for modern platform games. It has an original design of collecting stars in levels which are all accessible from passageways in the castle overworld. The stars are fun to discover throughout the 3-D landscapes. For the time, the graphics and sound were excellent. The play control is natural, although there can be some awkward camera angles. There is a lot of exploring to do throughout the castle and there are many hidden locations with minigames. The collecting of stars never gets boring which makes it have good replay value. The game is fairly short and can be beaten for the first time in ten to fifteen hours. It would have been nice to have larger levels, but this game is good enough already. I would rate it a 9.4 out of 10 and it marks itself as one of the greatest adventure games of all time.
