Spiderman 2 the game is a good looking game with gameplay tweaks that will fulfill the fantasy of spiderman fans. If you are the fan of the spiderman game, you'll probably love it. But when compare to the standard of xbox games, spiderman 2 won't break any ground. The game has GTA style free roaming gameplay with an entire city of Manhattan. However, the skyscrapers and buildings don't look apart from each other. They only have different outer shape and the flashy windows are all the same.
The map system in the game is rather helpful to navigate through various places in the city. Landmark places such as brookly bridge, statue of liberty and empire state buildings are located in the places where they are suppose to be. The cutscene are totally awesome in contrast with in game cutscenes which are rather ugly. i.e, the civilians have low texture faces and their lips won't move when talking. Their animation is also very limited. However, Spidey's animation are quite good.
For HDTV owners, there is a bad new. Even though the game look good in ordinary TV, it becomes awful when it is played with an HDTV. Although it supports 480p, it didn't help but make the graphic worse. Hence, when play with an HDTV, it is recommended to turn off the 480p setting in the xbox dashboard.
As of gameplay, it is really satisfying to web swing around in the city. You can go up to the top of sky scrapers and dive down through the street. There is an added realism too. Now, spidey can't web swing when there is no building. (eg, in Central Park) There are alot of hidden items and various moves to unlock as well. However, solving random street crimes might get repetitive over time. In short, the game's free roaming gameplay is more like True Crime streets of LA. You go around the city, solve crimes to earn points, buy new moves, and go to new mission when you are ready.
After taking everything into consideration, spiderman 2 the game receive a score of 7.5 out of 10. Although the game is not superb, there is a lot of entertainment value to be found.
