Cons:
no single player mode
small amount of minigames
Fuzion Frenzy was one of the first games released with the Xbox launch. It turned out to be a great party game despite a few flaws. It is based in a futuristic environment with six different types of battle arenas and approximately 45 minigames. You select from one to eight diverse characters (one of them being British) and embark on your journey. Then you pick between two modes Tournament or Minigame Frenzy. In the Tournament mode you basically decide on how many stages you want to play, and the minigames will be randomly chosen, based on what stage you are in. Minigame Frenzy gives you the option of selecting from any of the minigames featured. And once you select a mini-game there are directions on how to play before you set out and battle against your friends or the computer (which is helpful to newcomers). Both modes enable you to play with up to three friends. I prefer the Tournament mode because then nobody is arguing over which minigame to play.
The 5 basic structures of most of the minigames is; try to stay on a platform, get a ball in/on a goal, spray objects, collect coins, or collect orbs. Orbs, orbs, orbs, you can't get enough of them in Fuzion Frenzy. Anyways the makeup of all of the minigames is basically a spin off of the 5 basic structures. Although some of the games are different the object is usually the same, and this becomes repetitive.
This game can be compared to the Mario Party games excluding the button mashing, joystick swirling extravaganza. The only major difference between the two is that Fuzion is based in futuristic battle arenas, and the visuals are sharper.
Although the beat of the music is recurring, it is fitting and really makes you feel like you are in the game. It creates some depth to the atmosphere, which is always good to have. The characters also say some catchy phrases that are quite corny, and after a while make you feel like throwing your Xbox out the window. It's alright though because it becomes a great conversation piece with your friends.
The camera is great, never had a problem with it (mainly because it never moves). It gives you a good view of the entire arena so you don't have to use a magnifying glass to see things in a quarter of the screen, like most multiplayer games. This is what I have always loved about full-screen multiplayer games, no squinting is needed.
Overall, this game can wait to make it into your Xbox library, that is once the price goes down. It has the appeal of sitting down for a quick play with a couple of your buddies. There is ultimately no learning curve and anybody who knows how to hold a controller, and is familiar with the buttons, can play. This game is obviously not geared toward the "hardcore gamer" adversely it is more oriented towards the "leisure gamer." It features some quick action and occasional havoc. It also provides "nail biting" tension of never knowing who will win before you are standing on the podium. So if you have lots of friends and some time to spare, put in Fuzion Frenzy, it doesn't fall short of a good time.
