Like the original, Dungeon Keeper 2 is a great game.  It brings the same premise and style of the first game but upgrades it and adds many new features and quirks to imrove the fomula.

Unlike the first game, which only featured a single player campaign mode and LAN play, Dungeon Keeper 2 includes many new modes ranging from a world-conquering single player campaign, internet multiplayer and a brand new "My Pet Dungeon" mode where the player is free to design and build his dungeon with unlimited resources and no pressure.

The general gameplay formula mains intact.  The player recruits creatures and must keep them happy by providing facilities like a lair, hatchery (for food) and a wage.  This game also adds the task of preventing creatures from becoming bored by keeping them entertained with jobs or fun in the casino.  (Don't worry, it fits the game setting.)

What has changed, however, is the more objective based gameplay.  As a result of this, maps have become much more linear in design.  There is a lot more impenetrable rock than in the original, which can severely limit expansion options.  I'm not really a big fan of this change, since the vast options in designing your dungeon was one of the things that made the first game so appealing.

The creature roster has also been adjusted somewhat.  Some creatures have been entirely taken out, and some new ones have been added.  (Sadly they took out the Dragon and Demon Spawn.  However, they replaced them with a giant Salamander.) Other creatures have undergone slight tweaks.  For example, Skeletons no longer require a lair or wage.  They're just mindless fighters, which I think is an improvement.  Warlocks have also been toned down and are much slower at attacking than before.  (Though I miss the awesome sight of seeing level 10 warlocks unleash hundreds of fireballs and meteors on the enemy...)

Overall, Dungeon Keeper 2 is a very solid game.  One of the best games I've ever played in fact.  But I have mixed feelings about the changes they made.  Here's hoping EA get off their butts and release Dungeon Keeper 3, eh?
