The latest installment of the epic Legend of Zelda series and Nintendo's latest try at connectivity: Four Swords Adventures is a pleasant surprise. You may be thinking "Oh, this connectivity gimmick is worthless," or "Nintendo's just trying to screw us over again." You, however, would be wrong.
Zelda: Four Swords is an adventure that, unlike other Zelda installments, but has 8 worlds with 3 dungeon-like levels each. The quest has graphics much alike A Link to the Past for Super Nintendo back in the early '90s, but with effects of Wind Waker thrown in.
The one player game does leave a little to be desired, as the competition and teamwork aspects that were meant for the main adventure are missing. However, if you enjoy the old school gaming or Link to the Past, you will still love the 1P game.
The real meat of this game is the multiplayer. In the main "Hyrulean Adventure" mode, players cooperate to solve puzzles and compete for "Force Gems", the Rupees of Four Swords. If you get down in the standings, throw a buddy off a cliff and steal his gems when he runs out of hearts, and then use your Links to take out the boss. Also included are a deathmatch mode, called "Shadow Battle" with 5 arenas open right away and then 5 more to be unlocked throughout the main game. Finally, included are 8 minigames from horse racing to monster hunting to "the ball diet." If you have friends with GBA's, this game will provide fun for hours, and even if you don't, the old school single player mode will definitely satisfy despite its drawbacks. I give this game a 9 out of 10.
