Immediatly from the opening cinematic of this game, I knew it was going to be the best super hero game to date. With the beautifully rendered graphics and style, you get pumped up fast.

You play, well, any of the 20 Marvel super heroes to choose from, in a team of 4 put out on a mission by S.H.E.I.L.D. to stop the infamous Doctor Doom and his newly formed alliance called the Masters of Evil (corny, I know). As you do this, you will travel to lands that really give a broad scope of the Marvel universe. From earth, to Mephisto's realm, to Asgard, and into the far reaches of space and beyond. You wont just be facing super soliders here, but also trolls, elves, Skrulls, other aliens, giants, etc. Taking not just into a futuristic atmosphere, but to medieval and most modern.

As you go on this quest, you will also be able to do little side quests during the main ones (So it's not hard not to do them) that will net you reputation (more on that in a moment) as well as set the course of the future and effect the ending you get.

In M:UA, you get to choose from 20 super heroes into a team of 4 (with plus on the bench when you level up your team). The game takes a very Baulder's Gate feel to it with the ability to level up each super hero and spend points on your hero's powers and abilities. Along with your characters growing in level, so will your team as you complete missions, gaining reputation. A better team means more bonuses for your heroes.

The favorite feature of this game is the perfect combat system. It works just as well as a button masher as it does a combo puller. You can just tap the attacks to kill your foes or take the stylish approach and tap certain buttons at certain times to execute beautiful combos. Along with the pick up and play fighting, the game is literlly pick up and play. Anyone one of your friends can jump in and out of the game with the push of the button without restarting the level or any of that nonsense. You wont be using the fighting system to defeat the bosses, however. To take down the towering foes, you will be subjected to complete a series of button presses given to you on the screen ala God of War. This is a nice change of pace from pummeling on your foes, and gives the battles a fresh style to each one.

Graphically the game is sound. The cinematics are gorgeous, with great facial expressions (on those not wearing a full face mask, anyway) and perfectly executed moves. In game the graphics stay stylish and clean, and don't hinder the game play at all. Sound wise the voice acting is great, very top notch and match the characters perfectly. However, the battle music gets so..tiresome, it bores itself into your subconcious and eats away at you.

A sad hinder to the game play is the abundant video game cliches in here. Breaking barrels gives you items, press this switch here, press that switch there, and flaming junk all around to singe you.

The game does offer online play in the same aspects you get with friends on the same console. You can either go co-op in the game or arcade to see who is the Most Valuable Hero. The sad fate of the online play is you will occasionally run into lag which makes the game play continue to run, but like running in molasses. Along with that extra feature, you also get to do villain missions at your home base, which is where you and your team go to track down and defeat a villain within 20 minutes. Similiar to that you get Hero missions, where you play just one hero, specific to the mission given, and must complete several tasks in 20 minutes.

So, to review the pros and cons:

*PROS*
-Great game play
-Awesome voice acting
-Gorgeous graphics
-Perfect fighting system
-Epic boss battles
-Pick up and play style
-Plenty of replay value

*CONS*
-Game cliches galore
-Lag issues online
-Tiresome game music

So to conclude, if you like games like Baulder's Gate, and other dungeon crawlers like it, super hero games, and party games, this is a definate buy for you. If not, rent it and see how you like it. I strongly suggest this game to anyone.
