This is a great new trend in PSP games... instead of making a stripped out,, watered down, half assed 'portable' version of a title Rock Star has ported the big console game in it's entirity to the PSP.

Everything is here. The great XBOX and PS2 game is all here. The only differences are the screen, which is wide aspect (good) but lowers rez (bad). The controls, with the pathetic analog nub doing it's best to make you swerve crazily. And the LOADING TIMES. I timed them. You have plenty of time to time them. Loading a race takes so long that the PSP will lower brightness of the screen after ONE MINUTE has passed without a button press. The load times to go to the garage are approx 53 seconds. Race loading can take 1:20. One Minute and twenty seconds. I thought the load times on ATV : Off Road Fury were too long. Ha!

Winning a tournament makes you wait to load and watch the video describing your prize car, then wait to load and watch the video telling you how to hold the look back button then press the look sideways button to pan around the car. This is almost impossible with the PSP's D-pad. Then wait one minute to load the City Cruise, then one more minute to get to the Garage to spend your $5,000. Grrrrrrr.

But, the gameplay is almost identical, with only the slower frame rate marring the experience. It runs at about 15fps making the sense of speed from the XBOX version more a sense of slow blurriness. But these flaws don't drown the fun. This is a great game, with some great moments.

Now if only EA will be forced to quit making a little game for portables then charging $10 dollars more than every one else for it.

Don't let the mediocre reviews put you off... look at it running on a PSP and you will see it's the best racer on the platform bar none.
