The return of the famous Samus Aran is quite a good one, even if Retro Studios have made it very difficult for themselves by mixing old with new and all in a FirstPersonShooter enviroment, a genre overcrowded with good games. One game that immediately comes to mind is Doom, especially at the space-station.
The graphics is good with some neat effects when Samus comes in contact with the elements like ice, fire, electricity and water. One thing I liked was the flashing eyes you see, while fighting spirits.
The music is alright with some good tunes and the sound works well. The seldom narrator-voice is a bit weak in volume, though.
The controls are great, just like Nintendo-handling often is.
The thing that I think lowers the grade of this action-adventure is all the running to and forth in the same world and levels, just to collect upgrades that you couldnīt get before you got a specific item. It gets a bit monotonous.
I think this is a good and challenging game, and an interesting development of the Metroid-serie. Unfortunately the competition of the genre takes the edge of itīs qualities. If you donīt have had enough of FPS (on GC there arenīt that many), this is for you. Otherwise there are similar and a little better games out there, like Halo, Doom or Half-Life.
