God of War is truely a joy to get your controller on. A beautyful audiovisual experience that pushes the PS2 to the limits of previous gaming-frontiers.
The story is simple and full of the basic human emotion of revenge, set in ancient Greece. The character you play is named Kratos and heīs saved by the God of War: Ares and becomes Ares killing machine. But somethings happens that changes Kratos profoundly and he comes after the hand that fed him. :)
The controls of Kratos is superb, the music-score is great, the voice-acting, everything is just over the top. Some people compare God of War with Devil May Cry but GoW kicks DMC:s ass everyday! The game that may come close is Prince of Persia with the anchient fairy-tale feel and ultimate controls, but GoW has plenty more action.
As a character Kratos is far more interesting than Dante, Belmondo or any other action-adventure figure, with his blood-dripping past and ambivalent morals, but you canīt help but feel for the muscular, red guy.
I only have two minor complaints. First itīs a short game, you should be able to finish it around eight hours. It has a lot of unlockables though and a great replay value. Second, I sometimes miss a turn-able camera, especially in some of the amazing surroundings.
You might have guessed I like this game, itīs on my top five list of best PS2-titles ever. Ps: a warning for the children, the recommended age is very valid. The tale of GoW is filled with blood & gore.
