This game was a big surprise to me! After a number of survival-horror-games under the RE-flag with bad handling and stiff gameplay, RE4 merges Metal Gear Solid with Silent Hill and gets a tremendous result.
Gone is the characters that moves like a tank and now you can even play some action-packed sequences with control. Ok, the handling takes a little time to master, especially on PS2, but itīs very rewarding when you do get it.
The story is great, Leon is back and looking for the presidents daughter somewhere in Spain. A conspiracy unfolds and somewhere in the background, among the parasites, spanish farmers, midgets and priests, you get a feeling Umbrella plays a part...
The graphics are great, almost movielike, and even if the gameplay has been heavenly changed, from former static (often bad!) camera-angels to over-the-shoulder-views in third person, you still recognise and feel at home in the Resident universe, gratefully by keeping old details like herbs and typewriters.
The soundīs great, and the controls is a huge step forward. Itīs a beautiful handywork that Capcom has put together!
Itīs a game that after it gets a hold of you its hard to let go. You just want to try one more time...
Not much to complain about, well one thing I found out was that the gameīs very difficult and I played on Easy mode! But for hardcore gamers that would be a plus. Also on the positive side Capcom has put in a lot of extra missions on the PS2 besides the 18-19 hour of gameplay the main story brings.
If God of War hadnīt come out in 2005, Resident Evil 4 would be the number one game that year. Now they have to share the titel. What a year for PS2-gamers!
