Have you ever played a game that you thought....Wow....I don't want this game to end? Yeah, I know, it's been awhile huh? Considering this year has been a pretty big disappointment as far as blockbuster games, it's nice to see a game like Beyond Good and Evil come onto the scene. This is the first game in a long time that I actually played through and got ever item possible simply because I enjoyed doing so. The worst part is that I could do all of that within 10 hours.
Graphics: 4.5/5.0
This game is absolutely beautiful. There is no way around it. I haven't seen scenery this good in a very long time. The only reason graphics aren't a 5.0 is because the frame rate has a tendency to dip frequently and if you zoom the camera in, sometimes the textures are horribly fuzzy. Minor details in the grand spectrum of things, however.
Controls: 4.0/5.0
The controls were very smooth, especially while controlling the hover craft. Battle was fun, but I would have liked a bit more variation. Dodge with X, strike with A, dodge with X, strike with A. Thankfully, battles weren't frequent enough that this became too tedious.
Sound: 4.5/5.0
If you don't still have the Hovercraft racing tune in your head, you're crazy. The music was addicting and I absolutely loved how when I was in a situation that required stealth, the music dropped low and almost went in tune with your slow, cautious footsteps.
Innovation: 5.0/5.0
This is not Zelda, this is not Prince of Persia, this is DEFINATELY not Tomb Raider. This is something new of its own. So many good innovation points including partners (although sometimes I felt more tempted to kill Pey'J myself rather than let the villians do it), the camera usage and animal quest, the storyline. When I played this game, I felt hints of elements similar to other games, but I never said "Oh, I'm just playing a rehashed version of blah-blah-blah." That's what I look for.
Overall: 4.6/5.0
I loved this game, through and through. I had a lot of fun playing it and was only disappointed by two main factors. A) The entire game could be beaten in 10 hours, INCLUDING collecting every item. B) The ending was pretty weak...But eh, it was fun getting there. Give this game a shot, it's definately worth the 6 bucks to rent it, beat it, return it, and bask in your own personal glory.
