The best addition is being able to "stack" forces to annihilate your foes as they mount attacks on your nation.
The cut scenes for these are dramatically different from the previous games (they look like huge giants squashing ants,how fun!)
Also, any counry or culture has a chance, with your "divine guidance" to conquer the world.
