This is a great return to form for the Metal Gear series! Virtually every aspect of the game has been improved:
Graphics engine: 10! This is a PS2 game - that alone is amazing! Notice the foliage? The depth of field? The real-time polygon demo/movies??? Only thing missing is a widescreen 16:9 support with progressive scan or 1080i. Ahh, one can dream... PS3 for sure!
Story: 10 (especially when compared to MGS2. nuff said!)
Gameplay: 8.5
I would have rated this higher but the controls felt a little lacking, especially the first person mode. Or maybe I'm just rusty. Plus the difficulty seems to have been ramped up a bit. The camoflage system adds a new dimension to the sneaking missions! And true to form, MGS3 has amazing boss fights!
Sound: Dolby 5.1 support and they use it! Harry Gregson-Williams soundtrack! What more do you want?!?!
Bottom line: If you're an MGS fan, then you already own this game! If you are even remotely interested in a super stylized, highly cinematic stealth/action adventure that plays out like a good action movie, then give this game a try! The cinematics alone are worth the price of admission!
