All hail the new king of racers! This is easily the best racing game on any console. It is so addictive and fun, it has to be called one of the best games, period, on any system. Bizarre Creations has taken the formula from their previous titles and refined and improved every single aspect of it to create one of the most beautiful, perfect games ever.
I was never really a fan of racing games until I played the original PGR. The kudos system actually makes racing fun. Also, the way they created the tracks, by taking one large city area and then making several courses within it, is genius! This method allows them to include more than a hundred courses, and all of them feel different. This is a much better idea than putting 12 tracks on a disc and then letting you unlock mirrored or reverse direction versions.
While I had a blast playing PGR, it could occasionally be frustrating. AI cars would constantly spin you out of control, and some of the courses took you from a long, fast straightaway into a sharp turn into a narrow alleyway. Several hard turns would put you onto such a narrow piece of street, it was virtually impossible to not lose your kudos. PGR2 shows a little more thoughtfulness in the course design, and it also seems a lot easier to maintain control of my car, even when I "get together" with the AI cars.
The car selection in PGR2 is also vastly improved over the previous title, giving you over 100 vehicles to play with. Each vehicle handles differently, and you will end up with favorites, along with other cars you can't stand (they could have left out the entire SUV class...)
Graphics are beautiful. There is so much to look at as you tour through the real world cities; it is easy to get into an accident just looking at the scenery. With every new race, I marvel at the power of the Xbox.
Control is also spot on. It’s so easy to pick up and learn that my 7 year old daughter is actually able to beat me from time to time. My older boys leave me in the dust, but that's another story...
Overall, this is an excellent game, truly one of the greatest games of this console generation. Buy it today!
