No game I have ever played has moved me as much as this game. I remember seeing this game in the print magazines of the time and thinking, "no way can that be real." This was the dawn of 3-D platform gaming. This was the first and it played flawlessly. The camera could be moved to a better position, Mario could run or walk depending on how far you pushed the joystick. This was gaming bliss at the time. I don't know how many times I've beaten the game at 100%, but it is a game I pick up and play again and again. The graphics for the time were just phenomenal. Moving a real 3-D Mario around in this dynamic environment for the first time was an incredible feeling. How does it hold up though? Not very well, Mario 64 does show its age, low polygon count and flat uninspired textures (due to the memory restrictions of the cartridge format) unfortunately don't look very good compared to today's games. But in its time this was King and I for one enjoyed its reign.
