I think that this is a pretty good expansion pack to one of my favorite RTS game, ever made. WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness (PC) was on of the better RTS games out. In Tides of Darkness is a lot better then many RTS games that come out now! However, for me there was something different about the game when I made the switch from Tides of Darkness to Beyond the Dark Portal. The gameplay changed. In fact the gameplay got more challenging. The AI almost way too smart and the game are harder to beat. The difficultly level changed so much that you will probably thing it's a different game. For example, if it took you 3 tries to beat the hardest mission on Tides of Darkness in this expansion pack it will double the amount of times that you try to beat a level and that is for every single level. I was a little bit frustrated with the game but it still is a pretty good RTS game. The storyline is great, in fact, it better then in the first one. The storyline takes place Dranor, the Orcish home world, where you must unite the Orc clans and open the portal in Azeroth, the human world, forever (Orc Campaign). On the other hand you have to close the portal from the other side once and for all and forever get ride of the Orcish vermin (Human Campaign). It a very good storyline that makes you want to play the game till the end. The replay value has lowered for me too. I had hoped that they would include Battle.net to this expansion pack, like in StarCraft (PC). The graphics have not changed a bit and didn't need too, because they still go along with the game well. The sound effects are great sound effects of the classic original WarCraft II. This is a good expansion pack but it is really difficult to beat; I recommend it only to gamers who absolutely fell in love with original WarCraft II and needed more and something more challenging.
